Who has read Melissa Ambrosini’s Mastering Your Mean Girl: The No-BS Guide to Silencing Your Inner Critic and Becoming Wildly Wealthy, Fabulously Healthy, and Bursting with Love?? It’s a long title but this book made me say to myself “Hell yeah!” over and over again. And this is exactly what Melissa is trying to encourage you to feel throughout the book. So I’ll be honest, when I initially read the first part of the title “Mastering Your Mean Girl” I was a little confused what this book would be about. At first I wondered, is this girl gonna tell me how to be tougher and stick up to people more?? NOPE! Not at all! I seriously loved this book! I actually listened to this one on Audible and Melissa is the narrator herself which makes it that much better! I love her energy! I now own it in print AND I’m listening to it AGAIN! Get that mean girl out of your head So why have I chosen this book for my debut Must Read series? Because Melissa’s words are what finally encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and start this blog. I had been wanting to start this blog for quite some time but that bully in my head, AKA my mean girl, kept telling me not to. Thanks to Melissa’s encouraging words, I have taken the leap. And, boy, am I glad I am did!! Ok, so let’s jump in… Bye Bye Mean Girl Do you ever have those thoughts that cause you serious doubt? I’ll never find the time to start a side gig. I’m not savvy enough to start my own business. Why do I bother eating healthy when these thunder thighs aren’t going anywhere anyway? We will never be able to save up enough money to buy our dream home. Well, honey, you are what you think. This book really gave me perspective on how to tell that mean girl with all those doubt-filled, fearful thoughts to shut up! She’s only getting in my way and making me feel less confident in myself and flat out unhappy. Love versus Fear Melissa talks a lot about love and fear throughout her book. You might be thinking, here she goes again, getting all philosophical. Not at all! It’s actually a very simple concept. If you are full of fear (or in other words, negativity, self-doubt, or trepidation) this is going to seriously limit your potential. Not just your potential for success, but anything you’re trying achieve…weight loss, improved fitness, happy and healthy relationships, the freedom of time, self-employment…the list goes on and on. We’re all seeking accomplishment but if we’re full of self-doubt and fear, we’ll always be taking one step forward and three steps back. So let’s turn this negative chatter around! Let’s talk about love, baby! No, I’m not talking about finding the man of your dreams (although, Melissa does address this in her book). I’m talking about deep down feelings of love for yourself, your family, your friends, and your environment. Melissa has this way of opening your eyes to how you can not only love yourself better but the world around you. This book also makes you think about the actions you take and if you’re doing them out of love or fear. For example, are you exercising and eating healthy because you love your body and it makes you feel good? (Love) Or are you doing it out of shame or resentment? (Fear) I’d must rather have the former be my motivation! It was seriously inspiring! Truth Another nugget, rather a massive chunk, I got from this incredible book is encouragement to stick to my truth. What do I mean by this you ask? Sticking to your truth is abiding to actions and thoughts that honor your beliefs and not others as well as not doing or saying things just because it’s the norm or the “appropriate” thing to do. This can be as simple as not buying a new style of clothing just because everyone else is if you happen to not like it. Or, this can be a bit more complex in removing yourself from a toxic relationship in which you are being bullied or being made to feel less than your worth. Just since reading this book, I’ve had several scenarios ranging from very benign to quite complicated already where simply asking myself, what is my truth? And what actions will keep me closest to my truth? has helped me figure out next steps that are best for me. And let me tell you, once you do this a few times, it’s quite liberating! These are just a few of the multitude of tid-bits and topics Melissa covers in her book. She touches on eating healthier, finding your passions, managing your money, meaningful relationships…and all with such encouraging undertones. I’ve never been quite so inspired by a single book!
